St. Vincent’s One Nineteen Sisters Garden is a sequence of outdoor spaces designed as a vital extension of St. Vincent’s Health System’s Healing Ministry. This sacred space includes a meditative garden and labyrinth, a light-filled canopy, and intimate gathering areas.
The design process was deeply collaborative, shaped through planning charrettes with healthcare providers and caregivers who embody the mission of the ministry. Their insights inspired a garden that fosters growth, renewal, shared purpose, and a reminder of the spiritual presence in all of creation.
Located at the heart of the One Nineteen Campus, the Sisters Garden serves as a physical and spiritual connector between the existing wellness facility and the new Ambulatory Surgery Center. Every design element reinforces the balance between inward contemplation and outward engagement: cedar screens provide shelter while maintaining visual openness, and a translucent canopy arcs above, inviting moments of quiet reflection amid the flow of daily life.
