The Ascension St. Vincent’s Free Standing Emergency Department (FED) extends much-needed care for emergency services in the Trussville community.  It offers ease of access and a central point of care outside the hospital environment.  Backed by cardiovascular, surgical, transplant, neuro, stroke, and orthopedic specialists, the facility provides 24/7 care for life-threatening and severe illness and injury -- including heart attack, stroke, concussion, broken bones, and more. These Emergency care services include around-the-clock care by Board-certified emergency care doctors and ER nurses, admission (when needed) to Ascension hospitals, full-service digital diagnostic imaging (X-ray, CT scan, and ultrasound), and a full, state-of-the-art on-site laboratory. Flexibility is key in this 12,500 sqft Emergency Department, where 12 Exam rooms and 2 Triage Rooms can adapt to accommodate public health crises and local or regional incidents. Included in the 12 exam rooms are a Critical Care Room and a Behavioral Health Exam Room, as well as dedicated staff workspaces, break rooms, and lounges that support the providers, staff, and caregivers. The project was sited strategically to capture natural views with the goal of increasing daylighting to enhance patient outcomes.  Careful planning of the care spaces and modalities around a centralized nursing core optimizes efficiency and attentiveness while creating a soothing environment that promotes patient comfort & healing.
