For the past several years, BPA has had the privilege of working on the Powell Avenue Steam Plant in downtown Birmingham, partnering with Alabama Power to restore and reimagine this historic landmark. With a legacy of supplying power to the city for 120 years, the goal was to adaptively reuse the building as a cultural and entertainment destination, contributing to the ongoing resurgence of Birmingham’s downtown and Parkside District.

Significant progress had already been made in preserving and restoring key elements of the steam plant, ensuring that its rich history would remain an integral part of its future. From stabilizing the structure to carefully refurbishing historic details, much of the foundational work to bring this vision to life was set in motion.
